AESL 583 ENGLISH ABOUT HEALTH0 Units - 3 hours lecture Recommended Preparation: Completion of or concurrent enrollment in AESL 503 or AESL 504 This AESL course prepares intermediate English language learners to communicate about health within the American medical system. Emphasis is on the language and cultural knowledge patients and healthcare professionals need for basic communication with patients, doctors, and medical/pharmacy staff. Students will learn about healthcare professions and improve their English speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills while role-playing health-related conversations, filling out medical documents, and interpreting labels on foods and medications. This is a noncredit open-entry/open-exit course. R-E-99
