MATH 5 MATHEMATICS FOR LIBERAL ARTS STUDENTS

3 Units - 3 hours lecture
Transfers: CSU, UC
Prerequisite: Completion of Intermediate Algebra or appropriate placement based on multiple measures assessment process. Prerequisite Comment: A student should know how to factor polynomials and work with rational expressions; solve systems of linear equations in two and three variables; solve linear inequalities and linear equations; work with radicals, rational exponents and complex numbers; solve quadratic equations and inequalities; work with functions; perform algebraic operations with exponential and logarithmic functions; and use the basic principles of analytic geometry.
Recommended Preparation: Concurrent enrollment in TU 301  strongly recommended.
This course provides an overview of a variety of mathematical topics including the mathematics of finance, set theory, probability, statistics, logic, critical thinking, and other selected topics. It is designed for students majoring in liberal arts, education, or communication. NR
