ESL 90 ACADEMIC WRITING III FOR MULTILINGUAL WRITERS5 Units - 5 hours lecture Transfers: CSU, UC Prerequisite: ESL 80 Corequisite: ESL 201L This is the third and final semester of the academic writing sequence designed for non-native English writers who need to gain proficiency in Academic English. Students write essays in response to assigned readings from a range of college-level texts. The course covers how to state and develop a central idea of an essay, organize paragraphs into logical sequence, and integrate the ideas of others into a paper that expresses the writer’s own analysis as developed through multiple drafts. The course also introduces students to critical reading and writing to promote the study of language conventions used to construct academic writing. Successful completion allows students to enroll in WR 1. ESL 90 is CSU and UC transferable. UC will take up to 8 units of ESL. ESL 90 was formerly offered as ESL 201. NR
