Introductory Automation, COP

The Introductory Automation Certificate of Proficiency prepares students to work in a wide array of businesses which require the use electro-mechanical devices, sensors, robotics, basic computer programming, and general technical skills. Students enrolled in the program will be required to complete courses related to industrial electronics, programming with PLC design, OSHA safety standards, robotics, and basic soft skills involving data collection and reports. Upon completion of the coursework, students will be able to analyze and troubleshoot basic circuits, display hands-on skills with electro-mechanical equipment, successfully operate industrial process control systems, and display knowledge of industry standard OSHA guidelines which are associated with manufacturing.

Program Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  • Safely construct and operate basic electro-mechanical devices.
  • Troubleshoot basic automation equipment.
  • Successfully complete OSHA safety training and exhibit knowledge of safe workplace practices.
  • Collect data and enter information onto a standard spreadsheet.
  • Create a simple report documenting the construction, operation, and analysis of an electro-mechanical automation device.
  • Successfully program and operate a programmable logic controller (PLC).
