General Information

The Computer Science Department in the School of Mathematics and Computer Science conducts a program designed for students who are developing computer programming skills in preparation for transfer to a four-year college or university. The department acquaints students with the presently available methods of computer science that are useful in solving problems of science, industry, and government; prepares students for the additional formal education and self-education required in this ever-developing field; and fosters students’ abilities to solve computer science problems.

The Computer Science Department offers two degrees, Computer Science, AS and Computer Science for Transfer, AS-T. The Computer Science, AS degree offers a more general program in computer science including a variety of programming languages and theory that prepares students for transfer to University of California campuses, private and out-of-state universities. The Computer Science for Transfer, AS-T degree prepares students for transfer to the Cal State campuses.

Program Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the computer languages program, students will be able to

  • Analyze a problem, and identify and define the computing requirements appropriate to its solution.
  • Use current techniques, skills, and tools necessary for computing practice.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate a computer-based system, process, component, or program to meet desired needs.
