AESL 513 ENGLISH FOR U.S. CITIZENSHIP

Recommended Preparation: Completion or concurrent enrollment in AESL 503  or higher.
This AESL course prepares intermediate/advanced English language learners for the U.S. naturalization interview. Emphasis is on developing the language skills and knowledge of American history and government needed for naturalization. Class activities include preparation for the civics portion of the interview: reading and listening to lectures about U.S. history/government and answering the 100 possible civics questions. Students will also practice the English language portion of the interview, including responding to questions about the N-400 form, reading given sentences out loud, and writing dictated sentences. This is a non-credit open-entry/open-exit course.
