LIT 41 INTRODUCTION TO THE NEW TESTAMENT3 Units - 3 hours lecture Transfers: CSU, UC This course offers a non-doctrinal introduction to the New Testament as a literary text. The course specifically studies the historical, cultural and literary contexts out of which the New Testament emerged; the gospels, the Acts of the Apostles, the epistles, Revelation, and the formation of the Canon; portrayals of Jesus of Nazareth; conflicts in the first-century church; themes, characters, literary genres, and theories of audience central to the study of the New Testament; theories of authorship and dating of New Testament books; and the influence of the New Testament on subsequent select works of Western literature.
