DNCE 60 AFRICAN: DANCE AND DRUMMING1 Unit - 0.5 hour lecture, 1.5 hours lab Transfers: CSU, UC credit pending This movement course is an introduction to the history and performance of African dance and drumming. Students will be introduced to African folk and cultural dance movements and song forms including poly rhythms, vocalizations and integration of movement to live drumming. This course examines the way that African dance functions as a social and cultural expression, focusing on universal elements such as drumming, singing, storytelling, community, and environment. Field trips may be required. NR
