DNCE 51 PILATES: OVERVIEW2 Units - 1 hour lecture, 3 hours lab Transfers: CSU, UC This course introduces the fundamentals of non-impact body therapy/training method based on the principles of Joseph Pilates. Classes provide the dancer and non-dancer, coach or with exercises to improve core strength, postural alignments, coordination, and body awareness and mechanics as well as the care and prevention of injuries. Proper breathing techniques are emphasized, the focus being on exercising the mind as well as the body. Emphasis is on how to increase/decrease the challenge and make personalized adjustments and/or corrections in order to improve technique and achieve intended benefits. NR
