MUS 1H THE BASICS OF MUSIC HONORS

3 Units - 3 hours lecture
Transfers: CSU, UC
 

This course is a study of the basic principles and structures of music, including rhythm and pitch notation, basic properties of the sound, counting, major and minor scales, key signatures, intervals, triads and dominant seventh chords. It is designed to develop the student’s basic skills in music reading, sight singing, and aural identification, as well as handwritten notation.  Students will also learn the creative process of composing music and give presentations on the music of composers assigned by the instructor. This honors course will be enriched through limited class size, seminar format, more extensive reading and research assignments, and a songwriting project.
