MUS 1 THE BASICS OF MUSIC3 Units - 3 hours lecture Transfers: CSU, UC This course is a study of the basic principles and structures of music, including rhythm and pitch notation, basic properties of the sound, counting, major and minor scales, key signatures, intervals, triads and dominant seventh chords. It is designed to develop the student’s basic skills in music reading, sight singing, and aural identification, as well as handwritten notation. The course is recommended for music majors but is open to all students. Credit may be earned in either MUS 1 or MUS 1H , but not both. C-ID: MUS 110. NR
