ARTH 50 HISTORY OF GRAPHIC DESIGN3 Units - 3 hours lecture Transfers: CSU, UC This concise history traces the development of graphic design from the invention of writing to the digital revolution. The course explores the origins of printing and book design from early medieval manuscripts to Renaissance, Victorian and Art Nouveau graphics, and the evolution of twentieth century design styles and theories from the modernist era through postmodernism and the digital age. ARTH 50 is also listed as DMA 50; credit will be given in either area, not both. NR
