Dance

PAC 132  •  949-451-5533

http://academics.ivc.edu/arts/dance/Pages/default.aspx

The IVC Dance Department is renowned for its diversity and excellence in training dancers, choreographers, and movement therapy practitioners, and expanding the range of career options for its students. It is devoted to helping each individual recognize and achieve their goals. The dance program focuses on training students who wish to achieve an associate degree, pursue a certificate that focuses on employment, transfer to a four-year institution in dance and dance related fields, or complete general education requirements. Many dance courses meet IGETC, CSU, private, and IVC general education requirements in the arts, health and wellness, humanities, and cultural diversity categories.

Additionally, the program provides outreach services to benefit the entire college. The Performing Dance Ensemble (PDE) and the Rehearsal and Performance dance concerts at the Performing Arts Center are recognized as highly varied artistic cultural experiences with that bring people to the campus, who might otherwise not know about the college. Over 500 community members, students, faculty and staff enjoy an exceptional evening of entertainment. The department also hosts a High School Dance Day, once a year, which enables local high school programs to come to the campus to take master classes with our faculty, receive admissions and financial aid information, take a tour of the campus and experience an educational lecture/performance. Over 300 high school students joined us for this event. Also in the spring the dance department offers a High School Dance Invitational Concert, where local high schools have the opportunity to perform and get adjudicated feedback from our IVC faculty members. High school students that take part in this Invitational will have the chance to be awarded scholarship awards to attend IVC.

There are numerous performance opportunities for students of all levels and interests to perform by auditioning for the Performing Dance Ensemble or enrolling in the Dance Rehearsal and Performance class. Of those students, some are chosen to travel to the American College Dance Association and perform in a competition between 2-year, 4-year and graduate-level dance programs from around the country. Anyone interested in choreographing for our shows on campus is required to pass a choreography course, present a proposal to faculty, and enroll in Dance Rehearsal and Performance. Participation in formal concerts is by audition.

IVC Dance graduates have performed and taught nationally and internationally, are part of professional dance companies, and have created their own unique entrepreneurial opportunities.

The Veterans Services Center (VSC) provides veterans, active military and dependent resources that will promote successful transition from military life. The one-stop center houses a certifying official and provides direct support services to veterans. The certifying official provides assistance to students to complete the paperwork required for VA education benefits. There are computers available for veteran students’ use and tutoring available through the Student Success Center and in the VSC for all veteran students. They also are provided with assistance with scholarships, veteran counseling, referrals and resources, and new student guidance. A VA Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor (VetSuccess on Campus) is present weekly, a disability certification representative is present and healthcare benefit enrollment is available. Our one-stop stresses a holistic approach to accommodating our veterans at IVC and we promote wellness programs for all veterans to participate. We are located in front of the Student Services Building.
